VHF is built using Microsoft development software, including Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual Studio.NET. Crystal Reports.NET was used to develop the reports. The hardware and software requirements are, therefore, those recommended by Microsoft - primarily those of the .NET Framework. In our experience, meeting the minimum requirements simply ensures that the system will run - it will almost certainly provide unacceptable response times. We have, therefore, added our recommendations as footnotes to the Microsoft figures.
To ensure adequate performance, Microsoft has defined the following minimum and recommended system requirements for client and server applications running the .NET Framework Version 1.1 .
|
Scenario |
The .NET Framework is supported on these Operating Systems** |
|
Client |
Microsoft® Windows® 98 Microsoft® Windows® 98 Second Edition Microsoft® Windows® Millennium Edition Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 Workstation with Service Pack 6.0a or later Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 Server with Service Pack 6.0a or later Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Advanced Server Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Datacenter Server Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 family

** The developers of VHF recommend Windows 2000, Windows XP or higher as the operating system for VHF. We have not tested VHF on Windows 98 or Windows Me machines - you would need to install a free trial version of VHF to assure yourself that it works. The .NET Framework will not run on Windows 95 machines and, therefore, VHF will not work on Windows 95. Please note that we are unable to diagnose any questions related to Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me that might occur when running VHF. We do not run those operating systems in our test lab.
| Scenario | Required processor | Recommended processor | Required RAM | Recommended RAM |
| Client | Pentium 90 MHz* | Pentium 90 MHz or faster | 32 MB* | 96 MB or higher** |
| Server | Pentium 133 MHz* | Pentium 133 MHz or faster | 128 MB* | 256 MB or higher |
*Or the minimum required by the operating system, whichever is higher.
** The developers of VHF recommend at least a Pentium 400 MHz with 128 MB of RAM, preferably a 1 GHz PC or better with 256MB or more of RAM for acceptable performance of the system.
| Scenario | Disc Space for .NET | Disc Space for VHF |
| Client | Approximately 1 GB (1000 Megabytes) | Approx 60 Megabytes |
| Server | Approximately 1 GB (1000 Megabytes) | None, unless you are running the actual VHF application on a server. If you are, see "Client" above. |
| Scenario | Feature | Required software |
